Digital Restoration: Prudential Lions
The Story:
In 2011 Kreilick Conservation of Oreland, PA was appointed to conserve and restore the Lions as part of a large revitalization project that is supported, in part, by Prudential Financial, Inc. After 51 years in the park the lions had become greatly deteriorated from weathering and mistreatment. In recent years a number of painting campaigns were undertaken in attempt to cover the growing disrepair; however most of the coatings had failed and made it difficult to assess the damages prior to cleaning. |
The Kreilick Conservation team cleaned and reconstructed both of the lions to their original condition using multiple conservation and reconstruction techniques. The revitalized lions would be installed at the entrance of the Essex County Hall of Records and replaced at their Branch Brook Park residence by poured concrete replicas.
